Ingredients:
- 8 slices of thick-cut white bread
- 8 slices of cooked ham
- 200g 7oz Gruyre cheese, grated
- 50g 2oz unsalted butter
- 50g 2oz all-purpose flour
- 500ml 2 cups whole milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Nutmeg, freshly grated
- Dijon mustard optional
Instructions:
Start by heating the oven up to 400F 200C
Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat to make the bchamel sauce
After you add the flour, keep whisking for about two minutes to cook the flour without letting it turn brown
Slowly add the milk while whisking all the time until the sauce gets thicker and smoother
Sprinkle salt, pepper, and a little grated nutmeg over the sauce to make it taste better
Put away
On a baking sheet, put 4 slices of bread
If you want, you can spread Dijon mustard on each slice
Put a slice of ham and a lot of grated Gruyre cheese on top of each slice
Add the last few slices of bread to make sandwiches
Spread the bchamel sauce that you just made out over each sandwich
On top of each sandwich, add a little more grated Gruyere cheese
The sandwiches should be baked in a hot oven for about 15 minutes, or until they are golden and bubbling
Enjoy while hot
